Accessibility is a fundamental aspect of our product development and delivery strategies. We aim to provide an inclusive and positive experience for everyone.

# Conformance status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) (opens new window) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. Signicat is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 level AA. Partially conformant means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard.

# Other standards

# Compatibility with browsers and assistive technology

Smart-ID is designed to be compatible with the following assistive technologies:

  • The latest version of Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Apple Safari browsers.
  • The latest versions of NVDA and VoiceOver.

# Technical specifications

Accessibility of Smart-ID relies on the following technologies to work with the particular combination of web browser and any assistive technologies or plugins installed on your computer:

  • HTML
  • CSS
  • JavaScript

These technologies are relied upon for conformance with the accessibility standards used.

# Limitations

Despite our best efforts to ensure accessibility of Signicat Enterprise Smart-ID, there may be some limitations. Below is a description of known limitations. Please contact us if you observe an issue not listed below.

Known limitations for Smart-ID:

  • 2.4.7 Focus Visible: The website lacks accessible focus indicators for interactive elements. Keyboard users, including those with mobility disabilities, cannot visually track their position on the page, hindering navigation and interaction.
  • 1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum): The text in input fields and error messages does not meet the minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1 for normal text. Users with visual impairments, including those with low vision or colour vision deficiencies, may struggle to read the text in input fields and error messages, potentially leading to difficulties in form completion and error resolution.
  • 1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum): The "Log in" button text does not meet the required contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1 for normal text or 3:1 for large or bold text in some browsers. This can occur due to inconsistent font rendering, where the text may not appear bold as intended.
  • 1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum) / 1.4.11 Non-text Contrast: Elements with colour #00B8B3 have a contrast ratio of 2.46:1, which is below the minimum required ratio of 3:1 for both text and non-text content. Users with visual impairments, including those with low vision or colour vision deficiencies, may struggle to perceive these elements against their background, potentially missing important information or interactive components.
  • 1.3.1 Info and Relationships / 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value: The input field for the national ID number is incorrectly labelled as "edit text telephone number field" for screen readers, instead of "Enter your national ID number". Screen reader users receive incorrect information about the purpose of the input field, potentially leading to confusion and errors when filling out the form.
  • 4.1.3 Status Messages: Error messages appearing in input fields are not being announced to screen readers, preventing users from being aware of validation errors. Screen reader users may submit forms with errors or become confused about why they can't proceed, leading to a frustrating user experience.

# Assessment approach

Signicat assessed the accessibility of Smart-ID by the following approach:

  • Self-evaluation
