# Use cases

The SPID can be integrated in the digital services of the public administration or on private websites. If you are not familiar with how SPID is used in practice, here are some typical use cases:

Use cases

Digital onboarding: To become a customer of a bank, or any private website, you have to register as a user for the first time. The bank can rely on the identification by the identity provider and the level of assurance to receive confirmation about your identity and the personal identifiable information. SPID's registration flow is designed for such cases.

Authentication: As a registered customer with a bank, you will be able to access the bank's digital services. To be able to log in to your bank, you have to authenticate to prove your identity. With the unique SPID code, a user can be recognized at recurring visits. SPID's authentication flow is an appropriate choice here.

Age verification: All Italian citizens over 18 years old can activate SPID via the authorised identity providers. Operational guidelines are currently being issued for the release of SPID to minors.

For technical integration details, see Setup of SPID.
