Initial preparations
Sign agreements and order certificates
Before you can start integrating with Signicat's implementation of BankID, you must have signed an agreement with Signicat and obtained the required merchant certificates. For more details, see Sign agreements and order certificates.
Initial setup in Dashboard
If you don't have an account already, sign up for a free Signicat account by completing the following initial preparations:
- Sign up to the Signicat Dashboard and register your profile. For more details, see the Get started with Signicat guide.
- In the Dashboard, make sure you have set up an organisation and an account.
- Additionally, to use this product, you must set up a domain.
We recommend you create a sandbox account to test our services before going live. Sandbox and production accounts must be set up separately.
Add Swedish BankID
Once your Dashboard account is configured (see above), you must add Swedish BankID to the list of supported eIDs.
Before you can add Swedish BankID in the Dashboard, you must configure access with an onboarding manager. To get help with this, please contact us.
To add Swedish BankID to your account:
- In the Signicat Dashboard, navigate to Products > eID Hub > eIDs.
- Select Add new.
- Choose Swedish BankID from the list.
- Select Add to activate the eID.
Select a protocol
To establish a connection between Signicat's BankID implementation and your application, you need to use a standard authentication protocol.
Signicat supports the standard OIDC and SAML 2.0 protocols. In addition, we offer the Signicat Authentication REST API.
Choice of protocol depends on what you prefer and what you want to achieve. The Authentication REST API gives you a lot of flexibility and is easy to set up. Between the other two, we recommend using OIDC, since SAML 2.0 is much more complex to implement on your side and usually requires a federation agent already in place. OIDC is industry standard and you do not need to manage user sessions on your own (like with the Authentication REST API).
For more information about the different protocol types, see the Signicat eID Hub documentation.
