Test information

iDIN is a banking service which allows users to identify themselves online through their bank or have the bank provide certain personal data to companies and organisations.

To understand how authentication with iDIN works, you can run a test end-user authentication in a few ways:

These options offer a variety of methods to test different aspects of iDIN authentication.

Test users

iDIN does not provide test users. However, the simulator and the Dashboard tests return data of a fictional test user (VJ de Vries).

Test with the simulator

The eID simulator in the Signicat Dashboard is a tool to test authentication flows where you can edit the personal data of test users. This allows you to experiment authentication with different data properties and format.

Get started with the simulator

To activate the simulator in your Signicat account, you need to follow the steps in the Simulator documentation.

To test an authentication with iDIN in the simulator, do this:

  1. In the Signicat Dashboard, navigate to Products > eID and Wallet Hub > eIDs.
  2. Select Test eIDs at the top right.
  3. Optional. If you activated other eIDs, choose your simulator from the list of allowed identity providers.
  4. Select iDIN from the list.
  5. Customise the end-user personal data to your needs.
  6. Select Send to submit the data for authentication.
  7. Review the data you submitted in the previous step.

Below, you can view the sequence of steps in the screens:

Test in the Dashboard

Prerequisites

To test any eID in the Signicat Dashboard, you need to first add them to your sandbox account. Learn how in the Add iDIN section.

In your sandbox account, you can test iDIN with a few simple steps:

  1. In the Signicat Dashboard, navigate to Products > eID and Wallet Hub > eIDs.
  2. Select Test eIDs in the top right.
  3. Optional. If you activated other eIDs, choose iDIN from the list.
  4. Select "Rabobank iDIN issuer simulatie" in the dropdown menu. Then, select CONTINUE to proceed.
  5. Now, you can view the test data retrieved after a successful authentication with iDIN.

Test with the official demo

Prerequisites

To test iDIN in the official demo, you need to hold a bank account with one of the issuer banks in the iDIN network.

iDIN offers a service for demo and testing purposes. To test an authentication flow in the official demo, do this:

  1. Go to https://demo.idin.nl/.
  2. Choose one of the possible use cases, for example "Age verification (18+)", from the list on the left-hand side.
  3. Choose a issuer bank from the dropdown list on the right-hand side of the screen.
  4. Select Proceed to start the flow.

Next, you are routed to the bank's secure environment. Follow the steps in the bank authentication portal to complete the flow. On a high level, the steps look like this:

  1. Confirm that you would like to identify yourself with the issuer bank by sharing your personal data, such as name, address and date of birth.
  2. Log in using the authentication method of the bank.
  3. Agree to share the personal data displayed.
  4. Confirm by the means provided by the bank.

You logged in successfully! At this stage, a potential end-user would have completed the authentication flow using iDIN. Note that in production end-users are routed to the redirect URL you configure in your preferred authentication protocol.
