iDIN to itsme® transition

itsme® acquired the iDIN service at the end of 2025. itsme® will replace iDIN by the end of 2027.

On this page, you can learn more about the transition plan and its impact on your integration. To learn more about itsme®, visit the itsme® developer documentation.

Overview

From June 1st 2026, iDIN will begin to migrate to itsme®. As a consequence, your end-users will be able to choose to log in with itsme®, in addition to iDIN.

On December 31st, 2027, iDIN will reach end-of-life and will be decommissioned as a standalone service. By that time, itsme® will be fully operational as a replacement, guaranteeing the same basic functionality, while offering more features and European recognition.

During the transition, iDIN will continue to work as usual. All existing agreements and security standards will remain in effect. Depending on your current integration, you will need to make changes at different stages to facilitate the transition.

Signicat will inform you with details about the necessary actions in a timely manner through every step in the process.

Transition phases

The decommission of iDIN and its transition to itsme® will happen over different phases.

Phase 1: until June 1, 2026

  • iDIN is available as a standalone solution.

Phase 2: June 1, 2026

  • iDIN is still available as a standalone solution.
  • As of June 1st, itsme® will appear as an additional Issuer in the iDIN bank selection screen.
  • Your end-users can start to choose between the two services when they log in.
Custom iDIN selection screen requires action

If you manage the custom iDIN issuer bank selection screen yourself, you are impacted and need to take action by updating your integration. For more information, see the Phase 2 changes section below.

Phase 3: June 1, 2027

  • From June 1 2027, you should start migrating and will have to complete the migration before December 31 2027. Alternatively, you can already start integrating to itsme® with Signicat. Learn how in the itsme® developer documentation.
  • During the migration period, both itsme® as an issuer within the iDIN scheme and itsme® as a standalone solution will be available on the Dutch market.
Contract update

Your Signicat account manager will contact you about adding itsme®, or other methods, to your contract.

For questions about the changes, you can contact your account manager or visit our website at signicat.com.

Phase 4: December 31, 2027

  • iDIN will reach end-of-life and will be decommissioned.
  • itsme® will become the only solution available to your end-users.
Ongoing communication

To ensure a smooth transition, Signicat will inform you about the necessary actions in a timely manner at every phase.

Phase 2 changes

When integrating with iDIN through Signicat, you can choose between two options for managing the issuer bank selection screen:

  1. Built-in Signicat issuer bank selection screen: This redirects the end-users automatically to their bank authentication portal.
  2. Own custom issuer bank selection list: You handle your own custom graphical user interface (GUI) and then redirect the end-users to their specific bank authentication portal.

Option 1: Built-in Signicat issuer bank selection screen

No action needed

If you integrated toward Signicat using the built-in Signicat issuer bank selection screen, Signicat will handle the changes in phase 2 for you. Then, itsme® will appear in the issuer bank selection list for iDIN and the iDIN logo will be replaced by the iDIN and itsme® logo. Signicat handles the changes for you so that you don't need to take any action.

Option 2: Own custom issuer bank selection list

Requires action

If you handle the issuer bank selection list in your own custom graphical user interface and send a request to redirect the end-users to their specific bank authentication portal, you need to update your application and apply the following changes:

  1. Add itsme® as an issuer to your custom issuer bank selection list.
  2. Replace the iDIN logo with the new iDIN and itsme® logo. You can find the new logo on the iDIN-itsme® website.

You can find more information on the relevant changes on the iDIN-itsme® transition website.

Phase 3 changes

Your account manager will contact you about the addition of itsme® or other methods to your contract.

For questions about the changes during the transition, you can contact your account manager or visit our website at signicat.com.
