About Freja eID
Freja eID is an electronic identity created by Freja eID Group AB.
Key features
- Supports PIN and biometrics on both iOS and Android devices.
- Allows users to monitor their digital activities on https://minasidor.frejaeid.com.
- Supports multiple identities per user.
The Freja eID app
At the core of the Freja eID solution is the Freja eID app, which is available for iOS and Android. The user downloads the app and completes the registration on their own. The process is described on the Freja eID website.
The app supports both authentication and authentication-based signing and can be used for three different levels of assurance.
Product types
Freja offers three product types, Basic, Extended and Plus.
For more details about available attributes per product type, see the Attributes reference.
Level of assurance
The LoA levels, 1,2 and 3 (see above table) are self-proclaimed by Freja. Thus, if you need more information about the level of assurance, please contact Freja.
A lower level of assurance results in the user not being able to perform certain actions which require a higher level of assurance. Scenarios where the user will need a higher level of assurance can be:
- When providing health information or similar person-sensitive information.
- When onboarding users (KYC).
Authentication flows
Freja adapts the authentication flow to the user's device type:
- On a desktop, the user will be prompted to scan a QR code.
- On a mobile device, the Freja app will be launched.
You can override the above flow detection and enforce a specific authentication flow (either QR code or app launch) for all users, by defining the freja_force_flow parameter. For more details, see the integration guides for OIDC and Authentication REST API.
QR code
In the following example, the user wants to log in to a service from their desktop.
- The user is asked to open the Freja app on their mobile device, tap the Scan button and scan the QR code using the Freja app.
The desktop user interface provides the following user assistance to make it easier for all users to scan the QR code:
- A help text on how to scan the QR code, including screen reader tips (see screen 2 below).
- Possibility to view the QR code in full screen (see screen 3 below).
- Once they have scanned the QR code, they must approve that they want to log in to the service (in this example, Signicat is the service).
- Once approved, the user is asked to identify with a PIN or biometric method.
App launch
In the following example, the user wants to log in to a service from their mobile device.
- The user selects Start your Freja app and the Freja app is launched automatically on the same mobile device.
- The user must approve that they want to log in to the service (in this example, Signicat is the service).
- Once approved, the user is asked to identify with a PIN or biometric method.
Get started with the integration
Integration with Freja is done similarly to other Signicat's eIDs. For integration details, see the
