About eParaksts Mobile

eParaksts Mobile is an electronic identification (eID) method available in Latvia. It enables users to authenticate with your online services securely. eParaksts Mobile is developed and maintained by Latvijas Valsts radio un televīzijas centrs (LVRTC), which is a state-owned company.

eParaksts Mobile relies on a mobile application that generates electronic signatures and facilitates end-user authentication. Users can activate eParaksts Mobile through the official eParaksts.lv website or authorised service centres, ensuring identity verification during registration.

How eParaksts Mobile works

To use eParaksts Mobile, users need a smartphone with the eParaksts Mobile app installed. During authentication, users receive a prompt in the app to validate the request by entering their personal PIN code. Below, you can find out more about the user journey.

User journey

When users authenticate using eParaksts Mobile, the process involves the following steps:

  1. On your app or website, the user selects the eParaksts Mobile button to start authenticating. The user is redirected to the eParaksts Mobile flow.
  2. In the pop-up login window, the user enters their personal user number and selects Confirm (Apstiprināt in Latvian).
  3. In the eParaksts Mobile app, the user receives a prompt to verify the authentication request.
  4. The user confirms the request by entering their personal PIN code (PIN1 for authentication or PIN2 for signing) and selects Confirm to proceed.
  5. Back on the authentication page, the user consents to share the personal data displayed on the pop-up window by selecting Agree.
  6. The user gains access to your online service. Your application receives a response with the personal data of the user that you requested. This varies on the request type and the authentication protocol you choose to integrate with.

Use cases

eParaksts Mobile can be used for:

  • Digital onboarding: When registering for a new service, such as opening a bank account, eParaksts Mobile can serve as a standalone identity verification method or be combined with other services provided by Signicat to verify the user identity.
  • Authentication: Once a user is registered, they can log in to their account on your online service using eParaksts Mobile.
  • Signing documents: Users can create legally binding electronic signatures for documents, ensuring compliance with eIDAS standards.
Electronic signatures

Signicat offers a separate service for electronic signatures, called Electronic Signing. To learn more about the product and for integration guides, see the Electronic Signing documentation.

Level of assurance

The eIDAS Regulation establishes three assurance levels for electronic identification:

  • Low
  • Substantial
  • High

High is the highest level of assurance (LoA). eParaksts Mobile supports LoA4, which is equivalent to the High LoA, providing robust security for online authentication and electronic signature creation.
