Demo

The demo site allows you to explore the user experience of electronic identities (eIDs) firsthand, with no setup required. Along the way, you'll gain insight into the eID Hub and the typical user journey with an eID. For illustration, we use Signicat Email OTP throughout this guide.

We recommend trying out the demo when:

  • You are interested in identity proofing, user authentication, and electronic signing with eIDs but don't know where to start.
  • You are just getting started with Signicat eID Hub.
  • You want to familiarise yourself with an eID before doing any setup.
Testing only

The demo site is for testing purposes only and does not perform any real authentication.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you have completed the following preparations:

  1. Sign up to the Signicat Dashboard — it's free.
  2. Obtain the test credentials for the eID you want to simulate. For Email OTP, you only need your email address.
  3. Use a compatible browser (for example, the latest versions of Chrome, Firefox, or Edge).
Test credentials

Many eIDs provide test credentials that allow you to mock an authentication process. Navigate to the specific eID documentation to find test information.

Step 1: Navigate to the demo site

To open the demo site in your browser, do the following:

  1. Log in to the Signicat Dashboard.
  2. In the left-side menu, navigate to Products > eID Hub > Overview.
  3. On the eID Hub overview page, select Go to demo.

You are now in the demo site homepage, which shows the eIDs supported for testing.

Step 2: Initiate the authentication process

To start a user journey with Email OTP, do the following:

  1. On the demo site, select the Email OTP button. This starts the authentication process.
  2. In the Email OTP screen, enter your email address. Then, select Next.
  3. In your email inbox, open the email from Signicat and copy the one-time password (OTP).
  4. Navigate back to the Email OTP authentication tab and enter the OTP.
  5. Select Verify to authenticate.

If the OTP is correct, the authentication is successful and the site displays sample responses for the different authentication protocols supported by the eID Hub.

Step 3: Review the authentication response

Here are examples of responses that you might receive, sorted by authentication protocol:

{
"sub" : "2Rg-ORJbKXNcA7bHXVhx4zn-U9vnSCunhSBvBsWnM7c=",
"idp_issuer" : "otp-email",
"idp_id" : "YOUR_EMAIL_ADDRESS"
}

The examples above show what properties and user attributes your application can retrieve when you integrate with an eID through the Signicat eID Hub.

Try it again!

To simulate an authentication process again using any other eID, select Start Over at the bottom of the page and repeat the steps above.

Troubleshooting and support

If you encounter any issues with the demo site:

  1. Ensure that your browser is updated to the latest version.
  2. Verify that your test credentials are correct.

If the issue persists, contact the Signicat support team by creating a support ticket in the Signicat Dashboard.
